Celebrating the Life of Nancy Sims

Nancy S. Sims, 74, died Saturday Jan. 28, 2012, at her home in Auburn. She was born Dec. 7, 1937, in Muncie to Orland DeWight and Mary Dorothy (Gaylord) Cox.

 

Nancy SimsNancy has lived in Auburn since she was three months old, moving from Muncie. She was a member of St. Andrew’s Evangelical Presbyterian Church. She was past president and secretary of Sigma Beta Sorority, Steven’s Ministries. She was a member of one of the original families who began the DeKalb County Pre-School Program for Special Needs Children, which they began in the basement of the Auburn First United Methodist Church and later became the Children First Center of DeKalb County.

 

She has worked over her lifetime as DeKalb County Jail Matron, was administrative/executive secretary for Cooper Tire, Thermo King, Fort Wayne National Bank and International Harvester.

 

She is survived by two sons, Randal Curtis Sims of Fort Wayne and Scott Alan Sims and his wife, Shawnnah (Hastings), of North Port, Fla.; a daughter, Stephanie Ann Sims Caldwell and her husband, Paul, of Indianapolis; five grandchildren, November Caldwell McClure (Mike) of Crawfordsville, August Caldwell of Lebanon, Emily Sims of North Port, Fla., Gabriel Sims of North Port, Fla. and Johnathan Sims of North Port, Fla.; two great-grandchildren, Casey McClure and Remy McClure; three sisters, V. Jean Gronendyke of Auburn, A. Jeanette Riddle of Auburn and Fannie Pepple of Auburn. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Bill Cox.

 

A Celebration of Life Service will be held 1 p.m. Saturday at St Andrew Evangelical Presbyterian Church in Auburn with Rev. Glenn Francis officiating. Preferred memorials may be directed to the church. Condolences may be left at www.fellerandclark.com.
